As he approaches his six-year milestone as manager, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his future at Arsenal is inextricably linked to delivering trophies.
The Journey So Far: Six Years in Charge
The former Arsenal captain took over on December 20th, 2019 and soon guided the team to an FA Cup victory not long after. Yet, that first major trophy remains his only top-tier trophy following the departure of Unai Emery.
“Absolutely,” Arteta responded upon being asked about remaining in charge after his current deal. “Yet it's about today. And numerous factors must occur in the next few months as well to warrant that continuation.”
He will mark the anniversary with a match versus Everton, the very same club Arsenal faced the day after his hiring was confirmed.
League Position and Pressure
Given that trailing Manchester City taking on West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal risk losing the summit in the Premier League before their own match begins. This situation arises notwithstanding Arteta presiding over a squad that has suffered over 100 injuries over the course of last season.

Arteta concluded, “That is a level that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And our aim is to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the right path to winning.”
