Approximately 55,000 families have so far been affected by the weather, with their possessions and temporary homes ruined.

Intense precipitation over the past week have intensified the precarious living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by relief agencies.

"Horrendous" Conditions Creates Severe Threats

A representative characterized the weather overnight as "horrendous", with rain so severe that around 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"These conditions was really horrendous for the families. The downpours were so intense... And the gales were so strong," stated the representative.

There is extreme anxiety that minors sheltering in tents in wet garments will fall victim to hypothermia and additional illnesses.

Deaths and Widespread Loss

Health authorities have reported that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have been killed in building collapses triggered by the storms.

Additional accounts indicate a higher death toll. Officials said that numerous structures had fully given way and many others had sustained partial collapse.

  • Almost 55,000 families impacted by the weather.
  • More than 40 emergency shelters submerged.
  • Numerous individuals required to relocate again.

Assistance Efforts Deemed Inadequate

Organizations have increased shipments of tents, warm covers and clothes following the truce began, but they have said there is remains not enough aid getting in.

"We are operating tirelessly to bring in that relief and to allocate it, but the size of the requirements is so vast that we still have a great number of people and minors who are truly suffering each evening," stated one official.

Ongoing Challenges and Agreement Plans

The next stage of the truce involves arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the pullback of personnel, and other conditions.

Relief bodies have stressed the imperative for "expanded and ongoing aid to address urgent and ongoing needs."

The war was initiated by an assault in late 2023. Later actions have caused a high number of lives lost in the territory, based on health ministry figures.
