New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD shared surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
