NY Launches Portal for Citizens to Report ICE Footage After Arrests of 4 American Citizens

New York state attorney general has rolled out a new digital platform encouraging locals to submit visual evidence of ICE operations around the state. This step follows a day after a significant enforcement action disrupted Chinatown in Manhattan, triggering large-scale demonstrations.

American Citizens Arrested In ICE Operation

A lawmaker revealed during a midweek briefing that four US citizens were taken into custody and detained for "nearly 24 hours" after Tuesday's raid. Demonstrations erupted in New York on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Each citizen has the right to reside free from terror," state officials wrote in a announcement.

"For those who saw and documented immigration enforcement yesterday, I urge you to provide that evidence with the authorities. We are pledged to assessing these reports and evaluating any wrongdoings."

Portal Features

The form offers options to upload visual evidence of the incident, along with a section to note location information. Prior to sending, individuals must check a box that confirms that "the attorney general might employ any evidence provided in a public document, including in a lawsuit or government document."

Details of the Chinatown Raid

The enforcement action, which witnesses say involved more than 50 federal agents, happened in a famous neighborhood of NYC where counterfeit handbags, accessories, jewelry and additional items are sold daily en masse – typically to visitors.

Videos of Tuesday's raid reveal multiple covered and weaponized officers restraining and arresting a person, and forcing aside onlookers. Crowds of New Yorkers pursued the personnel down the sidewalks. An armored truck was noticed moving along the city streets.

Leadership Statements

At a Wednesday press conference featuring the New York immigrant rights coalition, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, announced that four nationals were taken by federal agents for almost a full day and that there were "no conditions where US citizens should be taken for unjustly." He noted the persons were let go on the following day with no accusations made.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not focused on deporting lawbreakers," he said. "This represents a military-style operation to create conflict. It is purely a justification to incite violence for this administration to deploy the military to prevent violence that they initiated."

Broad Criticism

Outrage over the federal action rapidly grew – every political contenders condemned the incident, as did Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Repeatedly, the federal government chooses heavy-handed tactics that create fear, not safety. It must stop," a political candidate declared.

New York City immigrant rights groups expressed outrage also.

"Immigration agents targeted the neighborhood with tactical trucks, covered personnel and tactical gear to focus on local sellers working to survive. This operation had no relation to community security and focused completely on intimidating residents and communities," remarked the leader of a rights organization.

Agency Rules

ICE policy forbids the holding of citizens and the organization has said it refrains from arrest or detain American nationals. However, external research has revealed that over 170 US citizens have been taken illegally by ICE since the start of the existing leadership.

Current Situation

ICE raids have been rising in frequency in New York and nationwide lately.

A recent action in midtown Manhattan was the earliest reported action on an housing center of the present government. Demonstrations targeting ICE are commonplace as are claims of violence and cruel conditions.

Recently, a document submitted by civil rights groups stated inadequate care of expectant mothers in government custody.
