Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only half a year following leading derogatory songs targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year career at Elland Road concluded amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead offensive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
