Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left leg post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

Team management indicated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 while batting among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he came back the next day and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he sent down a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt at his leg.

The English bowler was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out of the third.
