McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had such conversations," the London-born former Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I possess a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and announce what they were, but naturally it's a massive football club."

The coach signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the former Welsh striker is minded to complete the current World Cup campaign, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a productive Nations League performance, should they fail to finish as their group runners-up.

Considering his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
